Campell serves as a correspondent at CNN enclosing law enforcement and national security. Since he joined CNN, he has managed to enclose several stories including domestic and international terrorism, gun violence, immigration, natural disasters, policing, hate crimes, and threats in cyberspace. He has also managed to win several awards including an Emmy award in 2021 for the team reporting on the murder of George Floyd in Minnesota. He also covered the aftermath of George Floyd’s death as well as the prosecution of the officers charged with his death.
Campbell also enclosed Live on the Ground in Istanbul, Turkey after the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi which earned him an Emmy nomination. Prior to joining CNN, he worked with the FBI where he served as a senior special agent and conducted counterintelligence, cyber, and terrorism. In this role, he was also in charge of post-blast, anti-terrorism, and hostage-recovery operational deployments to conflict zones as diplomatic postings to American embassies abroad; Special Assistant to the Director of the FBI; and crisis communication liaison to the White House and National Security Council.
During his time working abroad, he managed to train quite a number of foreign law enforcement, intelligence officers, and the military in conducting counterterrorism investigations, crime scene management, intelligence collection, and the rule of law. In addition to that, he also attained four FBI Combat Theater Awards for his work embedded with CIA teams abroad and military special operations. Campbell is also an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve with past deployments to the Pacific and the Middle East.
