It was during his first weeks at the network that he foresaw Oklahoman’s passion in the darkest hours in helping each other. This was after the Woodward tornado in Oklahoma that volunteers spent sleepless hours traveling and working to help the survivors who apparently had lost everything. During the 2013 deadly EF5 tornado, Torp and his photojournalist became the first broadcasters to report live from Moore, Oklahoma using a backpack unit.
For his pivotal role in the network’s disaster coverage, he was accorded a Heartland Emmy Award. He enjoys featuring unique events in Oklahoma including his Emmy-nominated series, Red Dirt Diaries.
