Kevin Lighty is an American Meteorologist working for WCIA News serving as an evening chief meteorologist alongside Jennifer Roscoe at 5, 6, 9 pm, and 10 pm. Previously, he worked as a chief meteorologist at KSPR-TV in Springfield, Missouri.
Kevin Lighty Education
Lighty attended Vincennes University in 2001 where he graduated with an Associate of Arts degree in Radio/TV Broadcast in 2003. While at Vincennes University, Kevin worked as a weather anchor at PBS, the WVUT affiliate. He then furthered his studies at Indiana State University where he graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Geography and a minor in Climatology. Additionally, Lighty is also a member of the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society.

Lighty works as an evening chief meteorologist alongside Jennifer Roscoe and Bret Beherns at 5, 6, 9 pm, and 10 pm newscasts on WCIA News. Before joining WCIA News in August 2017, he worked for KSPR-TV as a chief meteorologist in Springfield, Missouri. He spends ten years and two months working for the station from July 2007 to August 2017. During his time at KSPR-TV, he covered extensive weather events including the storm chased with the Vortex 2 research team, the MO EF-5 tornado, and the Joplin EF-5 tornado.
For his work at KSPR-TV, he won the best weathercast Awards in the Missouri Broadcasters Association and received three nominated Emmy Awards. In 2012, his team was awarded the national Edward R. Murrow Award for their coverage of the Branson Leap Day tornadoes. Prior to working for KSPR-TV, Kevin served as a storm chaser and morning meteorologist at WKYT-TV in Lexington, Kentucky. He served the station for one year and six months from February 2006 to July 2007.
Previously, he worked as a freelance meteorologist for WRTV in Indianapolis, Indiana. He also filled in as a morning and weekend meteorologist from March 2007 to June 2007. Kevin began his career as a weekend meteorologist at WTHI-TV, the CBS affiliate in Terre Haute, Indiana. He served for the station for three years and seven months from July 2002 to January 2006. Aside from being a journalist, Lighty is also a radio operator at WX9KSL. He also has a certified FAA commercial drone pilot where he creates weather-related videos that have been picked by national news outlets.
