Marissa Mitchell is an Emmy-nominated and award-winning anchor and reporter working at FOX 5 DC as a Morning News Anchor and Host. She joined the station in September 2020. Before that, she worked for FOX 5 Atlanta as a news anchor/reporter from September 2015 to February 2020.

Mitchell earned her master’s degree in broadcast journalism from the Medill School of Journalism of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where she received a McCormick Foundation full-tuition scholarship. She also interviewed other newsmakers and celebrities including Oprah Winfrey, Clint Eastwood, Deepak Chopra, and Halle Berry. Mitchell earned a “Salute to Excellence Award” from the National Association of Black Journalists. She had also worked for other stations prior to joining FOX5. For instance, she previously worked for WBMA-TV in Alabama where she served as a reporter as well as an anchor. In addition to these roles, she also served as an anchor for the “Midday News.”

Mitchell also enclosed everything about city hall and broke exclusive reports concerning government funding. Furthermore, she also lead the network’s coverage of the 50th Anniversary of the “Selma to Montgomery March” which was attended by George W. Bush and Barack Obama. She began her journalism career at WTVC-TV in Chattanooga, Tennessee where she served as a multimedia journalist. During her time here, she enclosed the 2011 tornado outbreak across the Southeast on April 27, 2011.

Mitchell is also an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. She also helps in mentoring many young journalists and speaks to various churches, schools, and conferences. She has also been awarded and honored for being involved in many community services with women and youth. When she was still a teenager, she worked at Dunwoody High School where she served as the co-host of the morning announcements television show.
