Mark Johnson is an American Emmy Award-winning Meteorologist working as a Chief Meteorologist at WEWS-TV in Cleveland, Ohio. He joined the station in November 1993.

Johnson had his initial steps in education when he acquired a bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications at Kent State University in the year 1988. He later furthered his education by joining the Mississippi State University where he obtained a certificate in Meteorology in the year 1993. In his student years at Kent State University, Johnson was an involved student participating in different activities.
He learned to develop his communication skills, engage in Media-related activities, and work with other students. While studying at Mississippi State University, Johnson learned more about the specifics of the meteorological field. As a timely student, he got involved in weather-related studies and took time in the lecture as well as doing experiments.

Johnson has been working for News 5 as a Chief Meteorologist for 14 years as of the year 2003. Whether he is presenting sunny skies or snowfall, Johnson’s weather report is entertaining and enlightening, thus helping the audience avoid getting caught off guard by the weather conditions. Also, he has gardening and landscape tips with Angelo Petit on the program called ‘Mark’s Garden’. You can hear Mark’s forecasts not only on TV but also on radio for example WREO Star 97. 1 (east side), WDJQ Q-92FM affiliated with Canton/Akron, and WNCX and WDOK FM in Cleveland.
He usually focuses on the forecasting and tracking of more furious and dangerous storms so that the viewers are safe during the storms. Johnson came to News 5 in November 1993, which started his inspiring career in the world of broadcasting. Additionally, Johnson received some of the most highly valued Emmy Awards in the field of weather forecasting. He was also the first Cleveland forecaster to be certified with both the AMS and the NWA Seal of Approval. In addition to this, Johnson achieved the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal from the AMS.
Apart from the weather maps, Johnson has other interests such as fishing, hiking, and tennis among others. However, Johnson’s influence is not only confined to meteorology; he was awarded as one of the 50 Most Interesting People in the Cleveland Magazine of 1997 and early 1998. He also loves to mingle with people and the way he is upright represents his love for weather and people too.
