Stella Daskalakis Biography

Stella Daskalakis is an American award-winning anchor/reporter working for WEYI/WSMH in Flint, Michigan. She joined WEYI/WSMH in December 2022. Before that, she worked for KTIV as the weeknight co-anchor of the 5 pm, 6 pm, and 10 pm newscasts. She joined KTIV in December 2017 and departed in December 2022. KTIV waved goodbye to her during her final newscast on December 2, 2022.

Stella attended the University of Utah where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English. She is also eloquent in Greek and has studied Spanish, French, and German languages. She is an award-winning broadcast journalist who has served as a reporter and anchor in Salt Lake City, Kansas, Eugene, Seattle, Topeka, Utah, Washington, and Oregon. Not long ago, she worked at KULR-8 Television in Billings, Montana for a period of 5 years as a main female anchor and reporter.

Over the years, she has covered many stories and interviewed a wide variety of people such as human trafficking survivors, former presidents, celebrities, and politicians. In addition, she has worked in close to every radio and television news from the anchor desk to the assignment desk. Daskalakis also spent some time in her career as a host for Public Television and as a print journalist/columnist.

Furthermore, a number of the highlights of her journalism career include covering; the demonstrations in Seattle during the Iraq War, the devastating floods in St. George, Utah,  the journey of human trafficking survivors, the Kansas Legislature, the investigation surrounding Susan Powell’s disappearance in Salt Lake City, and the Iowa Caucus.

Stella’s favorite part about broadcast news is interviewing people who have inspiring stories to share. She is also an Instructor of Public Speaking and since May 2006, she has been a certified Facilitator/Trainer for the Anti-Defamation League’s A World of Difference Institute. She is a Certified Group Fitness Instructor and has served as an Emcee for a number of events.

In addition, she lent a hand in the opening and operating of two major hotels in Denver, Colorado. Daskalakis assisted her family in opening and operating two businesses in Salt Lake City, Utah. In the community, she is actively involved in a number of organizations. She has studied voice, youth folk dance group in Seattle, viola, and directed a church choir.
