Melissa Brunner is an American anchor working for WIBW-TV where she serves as a 5 pm weekday evening anchor and 6 pm and 10 pm co-anchor alongside Ralph Hipp.
Manitowoc, Wisconsin is where Brunner was brought up and she attended Marquette University in Milwaukee where she graduated with a degree in broadcast communication. She secured her first job at a radio station in her hometown where she did fishing reports in Lake Michigan for three summers. In addition, Melissa was able to secure her first job at WFRV-TV in Green Bay before she graduated and she spent almost 2 years at the station as an off-air producer.
She got her first on-air job at WIBW-TV in May 1996, and while she was at the station, she hosted other topics, covered crime, and the legislature in addition to being responsible for the weekly To Your Health feature. Over the years, she has earned many awards for her reporting from; the Kansas Associated Press, Kansas Association of Broadcasters, RTNDA, and the American Cancer Society.
The WIBW news team has earned two smaller markets Best Newscast honors from the Heartland Regional Emmys. Furthermore, she has been involved with a number of area organizations and events, such as the Race Against Breast Cancer, the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, the Children’s Tumor Foundation, and the Easter Seals Capper Foundation. Together with Ralph Hipp, they have emceed local segments of the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s annual telethon for many years. During her leisure time, she enjoys running, working outdoors, searching for great antiques, and scrapbooking.
