Michelle Kennedy is an American meteorologist and reporter working at WXII 12 News where she serves as a weekday reporter and meteorologist. She joined the station in May 2001.

Michelle graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. She also graduated from Mississippi State University’s broadcast meteorology school.

Kennedy works at WXII 12 News where she serves as a meteorologist. Fayetteville, New York is her native home and she began her career at KTVO in Kirksville, Missouri where she served as a reporter. She discovered her love for meteorology while she chased storms, warned about heat waves, and covered ice storms. Later on, she relocated to Charleston, South Carolina where she worked at WCIV as a forecaster during hurricanes Fran and Bertha.
She has also worked in Austin, Texas at KTBCwhere she covered flash floods and severe storms. Not long after, she returned to Carolina where she worked at WCCB in Charlotte before she left for the Triad. In addition, Kennedy is a member of the American Meteorological Society, she holds the AMS Television Seal of Approval and earned the distinction of Certified Broadcast Meteorologist.
She has worked at WXII 12 for two decades and during this time, she has reported on weather and science in Virginia and North Carolina. In 2018, she was elected to join the NOAA Hazardous Weather Testbed for the Spring Experiment which took place at the National Weather Service in Norman, Oklahoma. While she was at the National Weather Service in Norman, Oklahoma, she learned from researchers and meteorologists.
During her leisure time, she enjoys meteorologists, mountain biking, poetry, hiking, sailing, and spending ample time with her sons. Michelle is also a member of the board representing the Arts Based School and Trellis Supportive Care in Winston-Salem. In 2020, she was a National Philanthropy Day Spirit Of Philanthropy Honoree.
