Mike Alger is an American Meteorologist/Author working with KTVN News Channel 2 where he serves the station as a Chief Meteorologist. He has been working with the station since May 1989. Further, he has served the station for more than 3 decades. Previously, he served KNDU in Washington.

Alger works with KTVN-TV where he serves the station as a Chief Meteorologist. Further, he has served the station for more than 3 decades. Previously, he served KNDU in Washington. He has provided northern Nevada “Weather Coverage You Can Count On” during the 1990 President’s Day Blizzard, the drought in the mid-1990s, the historic Snowstorms of 2005, and the New Year’s Flood of the year 1997.
Asides from this, he has been recognized for outstanding weather coverage with the Associated Press Best Weathercast Award in the year 1995. Asides from this, he also received the Radio and Television Directors Association Best Weathercast Award in the years 19994, ’95, ’96, ’98, and 2001.
Alger has additionally served as the consulting meteorologist to the Nevada Department of Transportation for their road sensor program. This is in addition to serving on the board of directors for the Animal Ark, the Reno/Sparks Crisis Pregnancy Center, and the Truckee Meadows Law Enforcement Chaplaincy. Asides from this, he happens to be the chairman of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Green Ribbon Community Panel and volunteers countless hours to various events, non-profit organizations, and schools.
He received his degree in Geology and Chemistry from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington where he was a Rhodes Scholar quarter-finalist. Asides from this, he also received his Certified Broadcast Meteorologist certification from the American Meteorological Society. Asides from this, he has been elected to the AMS Board of Broadcast Meteorology.
Away from work, some of his hobbies include biking, scuba diving, writing, golf, tennis, writing, and music. He has written and published one novel and is working on a second novel. Asides from this, he is the narrator of several audiobooks, and his work can be found on Audible.com

Alger was struck by lightning twice. In 2020, he underwent surgery to correct a macular hole in his right eye. Due to his surgery, he wore an eyepatch and thus the rise of pirate memes at the time. In September 2022, he underwent the same surgery on his left eye for the same reason as the first. The surgery was done by Dr. Elena Geraymovych. During his recuperation, he wore an eyepatch to shield people from his “angry red eye.”
