Mike Lowe Biography
Mike Lowe is an American Reporter working for WGN-TV. He has been working at WGN-TV Station since joining in April of 2015. From 1998 to 1999, he was interning in the WGN Sports department.
He graduated from Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Illinois. He was a running back on the varsity football team. Lowe then graduated from Northwestern University. As an undergraduate, he was a double major in political science and journalism. Lowe as well received a master’s degree from Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism, where he won the Harrington Award, the school’s top student honor.

Prior to arriving at WGN, he worked at Tribune-owned WITI-TV (FOX) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he covered politics and government issues including the 2010 gubernatorial campaign, all of the major developments in the 2011 “Budget Battle,” the 2011 state senate recall races, the historic 2012 recall of Governor Scott Walker, the selection of U.S. Rep.
Paul Ryan as the Republican vice presidential nominee, both the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte and the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Kentucky, Florida, the Vice Presidential Debate in Danville, and the 2012 presidential campaign in the battleground of Wisconsin– including an “on the road” assignment for the final week of President Obama’s campaign for re-election and his election night speech at McCormick Place in Chicago. Lowe as well hosted a political segment called “The Political Lowedown.”
Before his assignment in Milwaukee, he was a bureau chief for WFMZ-TV (IND) in Allentown, Pa., where he covered western New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania, including the NJ attorney general Chris Christie. Prior to joining WFMZ, he lived in Berlin, Germany, and worked for Deutsche Welle TV and Radio, reporting on Europe’s response to United States foreign policy and the European view of the presidential election, among other topics.
Prior to that, Lowe worked as a general assignment reporter for WLNS-TV (CBS) in Michigan, Lansing, covering local politics and the auto industry, especially labor and management issues. While his career has focused mainly on public affairs journalism, including stints at WTTW-TV (PBS) in Chicago and as public affairs director and host of the live call-in radio program “Feedback” on WNUR-FM in Chicago, his background also includes some sports reporting experience.
Lowe has served as a sports reporter and fill-in weekend anchor at KTKA-TV (ABC) in Topeka, Kansas; on the production side for ESPN, and FOX Sports, and as sports director of WNUR-FM, where he did play-by-play announcing for the Northwestern University Wildcats football and basketball teams.
