Perlstein works as an investigative reporter at WWL-TV in New Orleans, Louisiana. He joined the station in January 2010 working as a managing editor before later securing a position as an investigative reporter. As an investigative reporter, Mike has covered multiple news including miscarriages of justice in the courts, corrupt officials, and exposing government waste. He also reported the hidden insurance purchases by New Orleans judges and uncovered the traffic court judge who violated traffic laws.

In 2013, he won the IRE finalist for his story that exposed the insider connections at Tulane University. Earlier, Perlstein worked for newsplink.com in New Orlean where he served as an editor. While there, he assisted in opening up magazine-style news and website platforms. He served the station for two years from 2008 to 2010.

Mike began his journalism journey in January 1986 working as a staff writer at the Times-Picayune in New Orleans. During his time there, he wrote stories for the web and covered major investigative stories such as crime and political cases. For his work, he was awarded the Public Service award for his coverage of Hurricane Katrina and the Pulitzer Prize award. He worked for the station for more than 20 years from January 198 to August 2006.
