Mike Shiers Biography

Mike Shiers is an American former sports anchor who is best known for his time at NBC29 where he served as the main sports anchor. He joined the NBC29 News team in September 2009, and later in June 2022, he left the station. 

Mike, a Syracuse University alumnus, comes to Charlottesville after three years as a weekend sports anchor at WALB in Albany, Georgia. He worked in northwest Georgia and southeast Tennessee earlier. Mike is a sub-four-minute mile runner who has climbed six of the world’s fourteen highest mountain peaks and won a bronze medal in archery at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. Shiers works as a NASCAR test driver and (obviously) enjoys making up false tales when he’s not covering sports for NBC29.
