Trau went to Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications where she pursued her higher education. During her time at the university, Trau went through internships and practical experience, whereby she interned as an investigator for three companies namely CBS News’ 60 Minutes, and PBS NewsHour. These opportunities gave her a more practical understanding of the investigative journalist’s work. Subsequently, the editorial team compelled her to take the interview to both the ‘Anti-Defamation League’ and a Holocaust museum. The story became an international issue while the bill was no longer being talked about.
Trau has received several honors including the Best Government and Political Reporter and Best Education Reporter from the Ohio Society of Professional Journalists. Her reports on the case of racial discrimination in the police force received accolades from the New York State Broadcasters Association. She was also distinguished for the Louise Schiavoni Prize and emerged as the youngest Take the Lead Ambassador to discuss journalism as a young professional.
