James joined Mid-American Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas in 1998 when he finished his high school education at Chula Vista High. While there, he played baseball and football. After realizing the importance of education, he rejoined school and transferred to California State University San Marcos in 1999 so that he could focus on his education. In 2001, he graduated with a Bachelor Of Arts degree in Mass Communications and Media Studies.
