Toma began his career in 1988 in print journalism, where he served a popular daily newspaper near his hometown in Northern New Jersey as a feature writer and movie critic. He launched his TV career in Watertown, where he served the CBS affiliate as a reporter and weekend anchor.
Following his time in Watertown, Toma moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where he worked as an anchor and reporter. In 1993, he experienced his first morning show experience in Springfield, Massachusetts, before working for NBC in Salt Lake City. He also worked as a morning show co-host in Sacramento, California, for 13 years.
Besides broadcasting, Toma is a drummer who enjoys filling in for cover bands when he can. He has played in tribute bands for The Beatles, The Stones, and The Who. He hopes to substitute for Scranton Wilkes-Barre cover bands for free.
