Nick Zelaya Biography
Nick Zelaya is an American journalist who has been working for WBRE as a sports anchor and reporter since joining the station in June 2023. He joined the station after receiving his degree from the Newhouse School at Syracuse University.
Nick Zelaya Education
Zelaya joined the Newhouse School at Syracuse University in August 2019 after finishing his studies at Lyman Hall High School. In May 2023, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism.
During college, Zelaya gained TV experience, serving CitrusTV and ACC Network. Further, he worked as a play-by-play commentator for the New Britain Bees Professional Baseball Club and Syracuse Stallions. He built an intramural basketball team that lasted four years in college. Moreover, he won awards from the Broadcast Education Association, CitrusTV, and the STAA for his broadcasting work. All throughout high school, he played football, basketball, and ran track.

Zelaya works for WBRE as a sports anchor and reporter with the Eyewitness Sports team. He is happy to share stories about the many college and high school athletes in the region with numerous teams in the MAC, like the PSAC, East Stroudsburg and Bloomsburg, King’s and Misericordia, and the Big Ten with Penn State. He enjoys sharing athletes’ stories with his viewers since every one of them has a unique story to tell.
Besides the college and high school teams, the pro teams, such as the Railriders and the Penguins, mean a lot to him. He is excited to bring attention to the new players who annually join these teams before they join the big leagues.
Zelaya has always been passionate about sports, starting with playing sports in high school, calling baseball and soccer games in his early career, to finding sunny days to go out and golf with his friends. He feels fortunate to have turned his love of sports into a career inside the studio.
