Pat Callaghan is an American retired reporter and anchor, known for having worked for NEWS CENTER Maine as the co-anchor of the weeknight at 6 pm newscast since 1989. He joined NEWS CENTER, Maine, in December 1979 and retired in December 2022 – his last day was on December 9.
Framingham, Massachusetts is his native home and he attended the University of New Hampshire where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and English. Prior to working at the NBC stations in Maine, he worked with New Hampshire Public Television as a copywriter and reporter.
Callaghan is a member of the New England Emmy Awards Silver Circle and the Maine Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame. He specializes in politics including; many national political conventions, extensive coverage of New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation presidential primaries, and the Maine State House, spanning five administrations. On a number of occasions, he reports from Washington, DC on Maine’s Congressional delegation.
In addition, he has produced award-winning documentaries on a number of Maine’s major political figures such as Olympia Snowe, Edmund Muskie, William Cohen, and George Mitchell. A number of his career highlights include killing all aboard including New Hampshire schoolteacher Christa McAuliffe, and being live on-air from the Kennedy Space Center when the space shuttle Challenger was destroyed in 1986. Furthermore, when George Mitchell was presiding over the multi-party peace talks that produced the Good Friday Agreement, Pat reported from Belfast, Northern Ireland.
