He earned a bachelor of arts in journalism from Bowling Green State University, where he also played football for four years and was named All-Mid-American Conference placekicker. As an All-State soccer player at Lahser High School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, he honed his kicking abilities.

He, later on, started working in Georgia at the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer prior to working in Flint, Michigan at WJRT-TV. Whenever he is not working, he enjoys spending his free time with his family and friends. He also enjoys watching soccer, football, and hockey.
