Pete Delkus Biography

Pete Delkus is an American Emmy award-winning meteorologist working at WFAA. He serves as the Chief Meteorologist specializing in television and digital weather forecasting and reporting at the station. In addition, he joined the WFAA team in June 2005.

Delkus attended Mississippi State University where he graduated with a master’s level in meteorology. In addition, he also attended Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (SIUE) where he earned a Bachelor of arts degree in radio and television and a minor in marketing.

Delkus is the Chief Meteorologist at WFAA. He has covered severe weather including flooding, flash, hail, and tornadoes over the years. For his outstanding work in weather anchoring and special show hosting, he has been awarded eighteen Emmy Awards. In addition, he is board-certified by the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society.

Furthermore, he is an All-America pitcher and had an all-star college career including a trip to the college world series. While he was at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, he held a number of records as a pitcher. After he had graduated from college, he signed with the Minnesota Twins organization in 1987.

He has earned a number of awards including the Rolaids Relief Man, and the Minnesota Twins Minor League Player of the Year. However, his career came to an end prematurely as a result of a serious elbow injury. Additionally, he played professional baseball with the Twins organization for six years.

In addition, he was able to secure a job at WFTV, the ABC affiliate in Orlando, Florida where he worked for four years serving as a meteorologist. Later in 1996, he worked at WCPO-TV, the ABC affiliate in Cincinnati, Ohio where he served as the chief meteorologist till 2005.

Furthermore, he outstood in Cincinnati as the severe weather leader for his exclusive coverage of the deadly Tornado of “99.  Delkus has been awarded numerous honors during this tenure including a pair of first-place Associated Press  Awards for best regularly scheduled weather. During his leisure time, he enjoys fishing, hunting, running, and spending ample time with his family.
