Rich Marriott Biography

Rich Marriott is an American meteorologist, weather anchor, and forecaster working at KING 5. He has been working for the station since joining in 1987.

Rich Marriott Education

Marriott earned a bachelor’s degree in physics and a master’s degree in meteorology from the University of California, Los Angeles. He also attended the University of Washington, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Sciences.

Rich Marriott Career

Marriott serves as the senior meteorologist at KING5 Mornings. He previously worked at NWAC for about 12 years serving as a forest service meteorologist based in the National Weather Service Office in Seattle. While there, he was in charge of detailing mountain weather as well as avalanche forecasts to private and government. During his tenure at NWAC, he went to the red zone at Mt. St. Helens in 1980. On joining NWAC, he also worked at the UW serving as station manager for the Blue Glacier Research Project in the Olympic Mountains.

Marriott is also involved with the snow and avalanche community serving as General Secretary of the Steering Committee. He also enclosed Vancouver Winter Olympics as well as flying with the Blue Angels. He won an Emmy Award for enclosing the station’s Climate Change forecasts. Marriott is also an active member of the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Society, and the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society.

Marriott is also a Board Member Emeritus of the Friends of NWAC (though that sounds like I should be dead). He is also an active member of the American Avalanche Association. In addition to that, he has also co-authored research papers in scientific journals, including Solar Physics, Nature, Journal of Geoelecticity and Geomagnetism, and Annals of Glaciology, among others.
