Rod Hill Biography

Rod Hill is an American Meteorologist working as a weekend evening meteorologist for KGW in Portland, Oregon. Hill’s forecasting career has spanned nearly 30 years, taking him from the lake effect snows of Michigan to the hurricanes of South Texas, the hard-to-predict weather of the Pacific Northwest to the tornadoes of the Ohio valley.

Hill grew up in Missouri and graduated from Mizzou. Later, he earned his certificate of broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State. He then earned the seal of approval from the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. Later Hill served on the NWA certification board for more than five years.

Arriving in the Northwest in 1999, Hill has been honored many times for his forecasting expertise and on-air broadcast style. Hill’s forecasting achievements include three Associated Press awards for best weathercast in Oregon and two Emmy awards for best meteorologist.

He has been a member of the KGW weather team since December 2009 and is the Sunrise meteorologist Monday through Friday. His passions include golf and the celebration of a hole-in-one in Feb. of 2009 and simply enjoying the beauty of the Northwest.
