Ron Bird Biography
Ron Bird is an American Anchor working with KUTV 2News as a co-anchor for This Morning and 2News At Noon. He has been working with KUTV News since August 1989, serving the station for over 3 decades.
Ron Bird Education
Bird joined Brigham Young University after finishing his education at Kimberly High School. He later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism.

Bird works with KUTV 2 News, where he serves the station as a co-anchor. He says that he is the luckiest guy in the world to live his dream at KUTV. When he was a first grader, he wanted to be a news reporter and stayed laser-focused on that goal. He also watched Salt Lake City news cable TV and has always wanted to be working at KUTV.
Bird worked at an FM radio station when he was a teenager before graduating from BYU. He then started his TV news career in Boise, Idaho, and briefly worked in Fargo, North Dakota before he finally landed his dream job on the morning show at KUTV. Altogether, he has worked in TV News for over 40 years.
During his time at KUTV, Bird has covered numerous major stories that have affected Utah. He and long-time anchor, Mary Nickles, were on air when a tornado tore through downtown Salt Lake City. The duo also began KUTV’s all day local broadcast when terrorists struck on 9-11. Moreover, they were on the air when a 5.7 magnitude earthquake rocked Salt Lake in March 2020. They delivered emergency non-stop coverage, earning an Emmy nomination. He feels honored to have been on the fronlines of history and share it with local viewers, an honor and a responsibility he takes seriously.
Bird does not only focus on the big stories, but the stories of everyday people that he cherishes. In this capacity, he has his “Ron on the Run” feature, where he profiles people and events that usually often go unnoticed, but really make good storytelling. Through the years, he has covered cops and crime, in-depth stories on Utah’s modern leaders, and elections. One of his career highlights was taking a ride in an F-16 with Air Force Thunderbirds.

Away from work on TV, Bird has coached AAU youth basketball for more than 20 years. At the age of 65, he says he has no plans of slowing down. He greatly loves his family and loves what he does and wants to stay involved with the community and the people that mean everything to him. He finishes by quoting Anchorman, Ron (Burgundy) saying “Stay Classy, Salt Lake City.”

Tracy celebrates her birthday on September 16th. On September 16, 2025, he posted a photo of them on his Instagram account and captioned, “Happy, happy birthday to my forever sweetheart! I love you, Tracy Ann!” Tracy has two sons, Dallin Joseph and Jilly, as well as two daughters, Jolie and Christy, from a previous relationship. She works as a freelance pianist and studied Business & Music at Utah State University.
Before Tracy, Bird was married to Jannae. The duo has three children: Jaron, Brock, and Abbie. He loves to dabble with his guitar, hit the gym, try pickleball as a new sport, and do his home and yard projects.
