Russell James Biography
Russell James is an American meteorologist working for WITN as a weekend meteorologist since joining the station in August 2022. Previously, he received a Master of Science degree in Geography, emphasizing Tropical Meteorology and Atmospheric Circulations from East Carolina University in Greenville.
Russell James Education
James joined East Carolina University in Greenville in 2016 after finishing his high school education. In 2019, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Atmospheric Science. He furthered his studies there from 2020 to 2022, graduating with a Master of Science degree in Geography, emphasizing Tropical Meteorology and Atmospheric Circulations.
During his time in college, James developed weather briefings and articulated forecasts to multiple students outside of his major. In 2018, he worked with the president of the ECU AMS Club to help fellow classmates host forecast forums and volunteer endavors in the community when Hurricane Florence threatened Eastern NC.

James works for WITN as a weekend meteorologist. He first experienced meteorology when he was only 6 years old. While he was on vacation in Orlando with his family in 2004, Hurricane Charley ruined much of southwest Florida. He became interested in meteorology after he felt intrigued by the strong winds and heavy rain from the storm.
Surviving an F3 tornado in 2006 changed his life and led him to a meteorology career. The absolute ruin and power of the tornado inspired him to want to brief people about the weather and help save lives. He is thrilled to explore an additional experience of what Eastern NC can offer and the weather.
