Steve Schneider is an American retired sports anchor and reporter who worked for WAFB-TV as a sports director. Previously, he served as an executive producer at Tim Brando’s Southern Style in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Steve Schneider Education

After graduating from high school, Steve went on to join Louisiana State University in 1977 where he attained a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism in 1983. He also served as a president of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity and worked for WPRG-FM as a play-by-play announcer. Before changing his career path to Journalism he studied electrical engineering for two years.

Schneider worked for WAFB-TV in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he served as a sports director. He worked for the station for four decades from August 1984 until his retirement in October 2023. Steve also worked at 9Sports Extra on Saturday nights serving as a sports anchor. For his work at the station, he has been honored with multiple awards including 17 awards from Louisiana Associated Press. He also holds the National IRIS 1st Place winner

In 1991, Steve won the first National IRIS award for producing LSU Baseball’s NCAA CWS Championship team. Some of his coverage includes the National Championship games in 2019, 8 College World Series, and the Saints’ NFC Championship Games in 2009 and 2006. On top of this, he also reported the 9 Final Fours and the Saints’ historic victory over the Colts in Miami’s Super Bowl 44. In 1990, he was recognized by LHSAA for completing a weekly series called Sportsline Friday Nite.

Aside from this, Schneider has also created other series such as the Sportsline Player of the Year in 2007 and Sportsline Summer Camp in 2000. Before joining WAFB-TV, he worked as an executive producer at Tim Brando’s Southern Style in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. While there, Steve created a weekly show mainly ranging from SEC & ACC football which aired on HSE, SportsSouth, and Sunshine Network. Schneider spends one year and eight months working for the station from August 1992 to March 1994.

He started his professional career at LSU Tiger Vision where he served as a play-by-play announcer and coordinating producer. Steve worked for the station for one year from January 1983 to December 1983. Besides working as a journalist, Schneider is also an active member of community work where he worked with multiple organizations. He is the manager of the WAFB Sports College internship program and a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
