Following his time in Baton Rouge, Burhans moved to Chicago after a clip of him water skiing with Twiggy, the Water-Skiing Squirrel. In this capacity, he served WMAQ alongside broadcast legends like Jack Perkins, Willard Scott, and Deborah Norville.
Burhans then worked in Cleveland at WKYC after Al Roker left for The Today Show. When that station sold, KUSI in San Diego called. Despite his hesitation, he moved and found the weather perfect. However, the cost of living was quite high since housing prices cost twice as much, the salary was half, and the water bills were over $400 a month. He left the station when his was twice what they were hiring, and the curves at his waist were not where they wanted. Thus, he returned to West Virginia and is thrilled to be a member of the WCHS-TV team who welcomed him with “Let’s Go…Road Trippin’!”
