Tom Lewis Biography
Tom Lewis is an American journalist working as the News Director and the Co-Anchor of the Evening newscasts at WMBB News 13, in the Greater Panama City Area.
Tom Lewis Education
Lewis attended Bay County High School (now Bay High School), where he graduated in 1976. He then joined Florida State University in Tallahassee, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1979 from the College of Communications. Lewis previously graduated from the Gulf Coast Community College with an Associate of Arts degree in 1977.
Tom Lewis Career
Lewis started his career as a reporter and anchor at WMBB-TV, but after one year moved to the WMBB-TV sales staff and sold advertising. He then left the broadcast business and moved to the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area and sold medical products for several Fortune 500 companies in 1983. In June 1989, he moved back to Panama City and rejoined WMBB-TV in November 1989 as a co-anchor and producer. There he reported and also anchored in the weekend. He then became a weeknight anchor/executive producer and assistant news director.
He once again left the station in 2001, to assist in running a start-up satellite channel for the Panhandle Area Educational Consortium (PAEC) in Chipley, Florida. In 2002, he left PAEC and went back to TV news full-time working as a weeknight anchor, executive producer, and news director. By 2014, Lewis opted to make another change by opening his own advertising & marketing business called Tom Lewis Agency.
Until 2016, he operated the business, until WMBB-TV came calling and offered him the News Director job. In February 2016, Lewis joined the WMBB News 13 team in the Greater Panama City Area as the News Director and co-anchor of the Evening newscasts. He has won dozens of awards for his work with the Florida Associated Press such as the Best Newscast, Best Breaking News Coverage, Best Public Service, and Best Overall Coverage. Lewis also earned the prestigious Telly Award for a program he wrote, edited, produced, and anchored on the first anniversary of the 9-11 terrorists’ attacks. He has also been involved with dozens of charitable campaigns and community organizations.
