Trent Aric Biography

Trent Aric is an American meteorologist who has been for WFTX as a meteorologist on Fox 4 Morning News since joining the station in 2019. Since January 2025, he has worked as a licensed insurance agent at Symmetry Financial Group. Previously, he worked as the chief meteorologist at WPLG for 13 years.

Aric joined Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis in 1996, when he finished his studies at Mooresville High School. In 1999, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies and a Certificate in Journalism. He then joined Mississippi State University where he obtained his Master’s Degree in Geosciences, emphasizing Broadcast Meteorology.

Even though he is originally from Mooresville, he is a Hoosier at heart who now lives in flip-flops full-time. It has always been his and his son’s dream to live in SW Florida. In 2004, he received the Seal of Approval of the American Meteorological Society, upgrading it to the the CBM (Certified Broadcast Meteorologist) Seal Of Approval, in 2010.

Aric started his broadcast career in Columbus at WRBL, where he worked as a morning and noon meteorologist. He then moved to South Florida in 2004 where he quickly became acquainted with the tropics. During his first two years at WPLG, he covered two of the most active hurricane seasons ever in the Atlantic Basin, including Hurricanes Charley, Katrina, and Wilma.

Aric, alongside Max Mayfield, a hurricane specialist/former Director of the National Hurricane Center, won a 2010 Emmy Award for their 60-minute special, Hurricane House Calls. Further, he won Emmys for Hurricane Season 2009: Get Ready and Goin’ Green, an Earth Day special that spotlighted the impacts of global warming on South Florida. Goin’ Green also covered practical solutions that can be used in people’s daily lives to help decrease their carbon footprint.

Aric continued his environmental work in South Florida through his volunteering with Dream In Green.” Further, he enjoys helping FOX 4 with their mission of “Protecting Paradise.” Besides the weather, he enjoys music. In this magnitude, he performed at the Nashville Follies Musical Theatre in Nashville for five years while in college. Further, he filmed multiple scenes of the Paramount Pictures release “The Fighting Temptations” in both Columbus and Atlanta.
