Tyler Mickelson Biography

Tyler Mickelson is an American anchor working at WEAU where he serves as a morning co-anchor on the Hello Wisconsin morning news show that airs from 4:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. on weekdays. He joined the WEAU news team in August 2016. 

He was brought up on a tobacco farm in Keyeser, Wisconsin and he was always the first person in his family to rise in the morning. Mickelson graduated from Columbus High School and later joined Southwest Minnesota State University which is a DII institution under a football scholarship.

After he had graduated and completed his fifth year of football eligibility, Mickelson started his career in media at KRTV in Great Falls, Montana where he served as a morning anchor and journalist. After working at KRTV for a year, relocated to the Midwest where he worked at KIMT in Mason City, Iowa for five years as a morning and noon news anchor and as a weekday reporter.

Furthermore, he host and produced a midday report when Northwood, Iowa was evacuated due to a chemical plant fire in 2013, which earned him an Emmy award. He also took part in earning WEAU its first-ever Emmy win in 2019, when Hello Wisconsin was awarded Best Morning Newscast for their coverage of the Jake Patter case. In addition, he has received praise from both the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association and The Iowa Broadcasters Association.
