Val Castor is an American meteorologist working for NEWS 9 where he serves as a senior StormTracker who joined the network as the first StormTracker. He joined the network in 1991.

Castor is an American meteorologist working for NEWS 9 where he serves as a senior StormTracker who joined the network as the first StormTracker. Having joined the network in 1991, he has chased storms including the most extreme weather imaginable for more than 30 years. Near Purcell in 1992, a rain-wrapped F-2 tornado passed within 100 yards of his vehicle while tree limbs and other debris were passing overhead at an estimated 100 mph.
Castor has had lightning strikes as close as 20 feet and has seen hail larger than softballs, which smashed car windshields and bounced eight feet off the ground. On May 3, 1999, for over two hours, Val and his wife Amy tracked and reported on the F-5 tornado that devastated parts of central Oklahoma.
Amy and Val were also featured on several radio and television productions both internationally and nationally including BBC, CNN, CBS, The Learning Channel, National Geographic, History Channel, Weather Channel, the Discovery Channel, and many others. He went to Nathan Hale High School where he later graduated. Later he joined the University of Oklahoma graduating with a bachelor’s degree in meteorology.
Additionally, he also attended Oklahoma State University and attained a bachelor of Arts geography. He attends Eagle Heights Baptist Church and is also actively involved. Castor also operates and owns a weather consulting service Castor Weather, Inc., which provides weather information and forecasts to a number of clients. During his free time, he loves spending with his family, water sports, playing golf, storm chasing, snow skiing, and weight lifting.
