Blackwell was the president of his high school diploma class at the Milford Mill Academy in 1999. He’s earned a B.A. In Broadcast News at Howard University in Washington, D.C., and in college, he worked at Howard University’s public television channel, WHUT-TV.

Blackwell previously worked at WPBF 25 News in West Palm Beach, Fla., where he was an anchor and was honored with two Telly awards, a number of regional Emmy nominations, honors from the Society of Professional Journalists, and several Associated Press awards. In addition to that, he was also awarded the UNITY Award and the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award.
Prior to joining WPBF, he worked at WTLV/WJXX in Jacksonville, Fla. where he served as an anchor. He started his journalism career working at the Community Times newspaper in Columbia, Md where he served as an anchor.
