Wes Rapaport Biography
Wes Rapaport is an American Correspondent best known for his time working with KXAN/KAMR as the Capitol Correspondent for 14 Texas radio stations, reporting on the Texas Legislature and other statewide issues from Austin. He joined the Nexstar Austin Bureau in June 2017 and left the station in the year 2017. He now works for the Texas Division of Emergency Management serving the station as a Media & Communications Officer since August 2021.

Rapaport was known for his time working with KXAN/KAMR as the Capitol Correspondent. He was reporting from the epicenter of major Texas stories. Rapaport was one of the few reporters in Rockport, Texas when Hurricane Harvey’s eye passed over the Texas coast. He was among the first reporters to arrive on the scene following the deadly church shooting in Sutherland Springs.
Rapaport has reported from El Paso to Houston, and from the Panhandle to the Rio Grande Valley. He has covered two presidential administrations, including President Donald Trump’s and Vice President Mike Pence’s visits to the US-Mexico border. He also covered both inaugurations of former President Barack Obama. Wes is a regular contributor to the political program State of Texas on KXAN-TV.
He relocated to Lubbock, Texas, in 2015 to work as a reporter and multimedia journalist for the Duopoly station, where he also hosted and produced weekend broadcasts. He was a founding member of KAMC’s Talking Points and continues to contribute to the political program.
His work during Hurricane Harvey, specifically uncovering hotel price gouging in the aftermath of the storm, earned him a Lone Star Emmy nomination. The Texas State Association of Firefighters awarded him a merit award for his reporting on firefighter health in Lubbock. His work has been recognized by the Orange County Press Club and the Radio and Television News Association of Southern California.
His previous work and internships include local news at KION-TV, NBC Network News, and investigative and sports internships at NBC Los Angeles. Wes earned a B.F.A. in Television and Broadcast Journalism from Chapman University. Rapaport was the anchor, producer, and reporter for Orange County’s only live newscast, Chapman News, which was run by students.
He worked as a PA Announcer for the athletics department as well as the sports director of the school’s radio station. His production experience includes minor league baseball camera operation and countless hours of high school sports coverage. He has extensive experience in public access television as a producer, director, and mentor through the Midpeninsula Community Media Center.
