Zach Daniel Biography
Zach Daniel is a well-reputed Emmy Award-winning Journalist working for WTVR-TV as a Chief Meteorologist. He joined WTVR in November 2007. There, his weathercasts can be seen on weeknights at 4, 5, 5:30, 6, and 11. His specialties include severe weather forecasting, monitoring, and tracking. He is a member of the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society. Also, he has been awarded the AMS Seal of Approval.

He received his education at The University of Georgia from 1992 to 1997 where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Geography. From 1997 to 2000, he attended The University of Oklahoma where he graduated with a B.S. in Meteorology.

Also, he forecasts and tracks the weather on-air for 5 shows each afternoon and evening 5 days a week in the Richmond-Petersburg DMA. From April 2016 to October 2018, he worked as a Chief meteorologist for WDCW in Washington, District of Columbia. He was then a Weekend Evening meteorologist at KWTV from December 2001 to November 2007. Prior to that, he worked for KSPR-TV as a Weekend Evening Meteorologist from May 2000 to December 2001. During his time at Richmond, he has earned numerous awards including 23 Emmy nominations and 14 Emmy wins.
His 14 Emmy wins include 8 “Best Weather Anchor” titles (2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2022). His other six Emmys are for Best Weathercast in 2008, 2018, 0220, and 2021, Best Weather Special in 2011, and for coverage of the historic tornado outbreak on September 17, 2018. In addition to his meteorological work, he serves as a forensic meteorologist and has served as an expert witness generating forensic weather reports for numerous cases involving weather in the Mid-Atlantic. Moreover, he has written two children’s books with Walter and Stanley as the main characters. When he is not working, he loves running, playing golf and tennis, snowboarding, traveling, spending time with his family, and serving as a board member for the American Cancer Society.
