In her tenure, she has been a main anchor on every weekday newscast at WTVR mornings, noon, 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m., 7 p.m., and 11 p.m. Since 2003, she has enjoyed challenging area students as the Host of “Battle of the Brains”. This is Central Virginia’s longest-running high school academic quiz show which airs at 10 pm on Saturdays on VBS 6 and 11 am on WTKR-News 3 Norfolk.
Cheryl has spent many nights and weekends hosting or speaking at community events and making other personal appearances. One of the memorable highlights of her CBS 6 career was a role in 2004 on CBS’s longest-running daytime drama, “Guiding Light” while taking viewers behind the scenes. Prior to joining WTVR, she worked in Binghampton, New York as a TV news Anchor/Reporter and as a freelance “Lifestyles” reporter in Rochester, New York. Before that, she spent nine years as a DJ and in various positions on radio in her hometown of Rochester. In addition to her broadcasting career, she has shared her knowledge and radio as an Adjunct Professor at Reynolds Community College in Richmond.
Her exemplarity in the broadcasting field has brought her various awards and honors including the; 2000-Richmond Broadcasters Hall of Fame-Broadcaster of the Year, 2007-Richmond Broadcasters Hall of Fame Inductee-Lifetime Achievement Award, 2007-Urban League of Greater Richmond “Community Legend” Award, 2008-YWCA “Outstanding Women” Award, April 2015-Induction into VCU/Virginia Communications Hall of Fame, and June 2015-Virginia Association of Broadcasters-George A. Bowles Distinguished Broadcaster Award.
