Greg Groogan Biography
Greg Groogan is an American award-winning reporter, Host, and anchor working for FOX26. He joined the station in 2000.
Greg Groogan Career
Groogan serves as FOX 26 special projects reporter and has attained more than 200 journalism awards including 28 Lone Star Emmys. He was also honored by the Houston Press Club as Television Journalist of the Year in 2010, 2013, and again in 2017. In 2010, he was awarded by The National Education Writers Association. Furthermore, he is also a seven-time regional winner of the Edward R. Murrow Award and a two-time recipient of the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. He attained the Barbara Jordan Award three times for excellence in enclosing Texans challenged with disabilities. The American Legion honored him in 2008.
Groogan went to the University of Texas Plan II honors program where he got his diploma. He then started working for Anchorage stations KTUU and KIMO where he enclosed the Exxon Valdez oil spill – at the time. Groogan then went back to Texas and started working for ABC station KVUE in 1990 where he enclosed state politics as capital bureau chief and later on started serving as an investigative reporter. He left the station in 1997 and joined NBC affiliate WKYC where he worked for about three years. In 2000, he joined FOX26 where he started off by serving as a broadcast reporter. In this role, he detailed the energy trading sector and the collapse of Enron.
Groogan has also won 38 Associated Press Awards as well as honors from the Dallas Press Club, the Houston Press Club, the Alaska Press Club, and the Texas Cancer Society. He was also honored by the Austin Chronicle, the Texas State Teachers Association, the Harris County Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association, the National Association of Black Journalists, the Texas Bar Association, the Ft. Worth Society of Professional Journalists, and the Ohio Society of Professional Journalists. Furthermore, he was also awarded a national Best of Gannett for news writing.
