Alex Marquardt is an American Senior National Security Correspondent based in the CNN Washington Bureau. He rejoined the network in May 2017.

Marquardt serves as CNN’s Senior National Security Correspondent based in CNN’s Washington Bureau. Since he rejoined CNN, he assisted in leading international and local breaking news coverage all across the USA and beyond. Some of the stories include the intelligence community, national security issues around Covid-19, election security, The Capitol Insurrection on January 6, 2021, and the Black Lives Matter protests in DC.

Prior to rejoining CNN in 2017, he worked at ABC News where he served as a foreign correspondent from June 2009 to April 2017. During his tenure working at ABC News, he was in charge of reporting on the migrant and refugee crisis, the uprisings in the Middle East as well as the wave of terror attacks across Europe. He also reported Live on the wars with Israel and went to Ukraine as Russia’s military invaded.

Prior to that, he worked at CNN for the first time serving as a reporter from November 2007 till his departure in January 2009. Before his first tenure at CNN, he worked at Channel One News where he served as an anchor for about 1 year and 2 months. Before that, he worked at NBC News in New York from February 2005 till his departure in November 2005.

Marquardt has also managed to interview quite a number of politicians, celebrities as well as business tycoons including Clinton, Biden, Governors Huckabee, and Romney as well as former President Obama. He went to Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. In addition to that, he has also managed to win several awards including the Gracie Awards, Emmy Award, and Edward R. Murrow.
