Robert Kekaula Biography
Robert Kekaula is an American former sports director, producer, anchor, and reporter who was working at KITV as a managing editor. He rejoined the station in 1997 as a sports director and unfortunately passed away on the 19th of June.
Robert Kekaula Career
KITV mourned the demise of Kekaula on Saturday, June 19 who was the Managing Editor at the station. In the course of his time at the station, he was described as the warrior, who worked on and off-air, serving as a mentor to those he worked closely with.
In 1983, he graduated from Kamehameha Schools. He later joined the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Eventually, in 2008, Kekaula earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Communications. He began his broadcasting career in 1986 at the KHVH radio station.
In 1987, Kekaula started the on-air job at KGMB as a weekend sports producer. He first joined the KITV staff team in 1989 as a weekend sports anchor and reporter prior to joining KHNL in 1994. From 1992 to 2010, he has been the color commentator for the University of Hawaii football games on radio and television.
Kekaula was voted the TV play-by-play voice of the Warriors in 2011. In addition, he was an artist, and had three solo albums: “Daddy’s Little Girl,” “About Everyday People,” and “Kanak Attack.” “A Guava Ding Thing,” is a music company owned by Kekaula. He was serving as the Executive Producer on three other recordings, two of which won numerous Na Hoku Hanohano honors.
