Sera Congi Biography
Sera Congi is an American Emmy and Murrow-award-winning journalist working for WCVB Channel 5 as a reporter since joining the station in November 2014. Previously, she worked as a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor at WBZ CBS Boston for nearly a decade.
Sera Congi Education
Congi joined Baruch College after finishing her education at Townsend Harris High School in Queens, New York. She later graduated with a Bachelor’s degree.

Congi works for WCVB Channel 5 as a reporter and has covered the news in New England for over two decades. During her time at the station, she has covered important stories like the escape of two prisoners in Dannemora, New York, the murder of a Google executive in Princeton, and the historic snowfall during the Winter of 2015.
In 2017, Congi spoke with fellow journalists in China, an adventure she considers a highlight in her career. She did multiple presentations about TV reporting to journalists at two broadcast stations in Jinan, China, as part of a group with the University of Missouri.
Congi was featured on an episode of ABC News’ 20/20, “Can Words Kill?” The episode looked at the controversial texting suicide case in Massachusetts. It included her extensive coverage and perspective of the Michelle Carter trial.
Previously, she worked as a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor at WBZ CBS Boston for nearly a decade. There, she covered stories significant to the Boston area, including the Whitey Bulger Trial, the Watertown Manhunt, the Market Basket Stalemate, and the Marathon Bombings. Also, she covered several Presidential primaries in New Hampshire and the shootings in Newtown, Connecticut.

Before Boston, Congi worked at WCAX-TV in Burlington, Vermont, as a news anchor. There, she anchored the award-winning 6 and 11 PM newscasts. She won several awards for her work as the news team’s medical reporter. One of her notable works was investigating a hospital corruption scheme known as ‘Burlington’s Big Dig’.
Congi earned an Edward R. Murrow award for her coverage of Vermont Governor Howard Dean’s presidential run. She began her broadcasting career as a desk assistant at CBS News Northeast Bureau in New York City. Also, she contributed to the news magazine show Eye to Eye with Connie Chung.
