Aliyah Chavez Biography
Aliyah Chavez is an American journalist who has been a reporter for KOAT since joining the station in October 2024. Previously, she worked as an anchor of the ICT Newscast for at ICT (formerly Indian Country Today) in Phoenix, Arizona for five years.

Chavez studied at Stanford University in 2014, when she finished her high school education. In 2018, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and the Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity. She then furthered her studies there, obtaining a Master of Arts degree in Journalism.
During college, she was involved with the Stanford American Indian Organization, Stanford Powwow, Delta Delta Delta fraternity (Omega Chapter), and Stanford Cheer. She also worked as a general assignment reporter based in Phoenix, Arizona, covering topics like local elections and event coverage.

Chavez works for KOAT as a reporter and is thrilled to be back home in New Mexico. With her family coming from Kewa Pueblo, she studied in Bernalillo and Santa Fe. After graduating college, she kickstarted her career at ICT (formerly Indian Country Today) in Phoenix, Arizona, as a reporter and producer. After holding those roles for two years, she was promoted to anchor and managing editor of ICT Newscast.
Chavez is privileged of the role she played in establishing the only U.S. broadcast news program that brings audiences Indigenous storytelling through the background of Indigenous people. During her career, she broadcasted numerous national stories, mainly around politics and elections. She had a one-on-one interview with Vice President Kamala Harris and extensively broadcasted the nomination and confirmation of Deb Haaland as the Interior Secretary.
