Anthony Johnson Biography
Anthony Johnson is an American reporter working at WABC-TV where he serves as a weekday and weekend reporter. He joined WABC-TV in January 2001.
Anthony previously worked as a reporter for 1010 WINS Radio in New York City for almost a decade. While he was there, he covered important news topics such as the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, the TWA Flight 800 tragedy, and the Long Island Railroad shootings. He was recently honored by the Radio and Television News Directors Association with a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for his series on the history of African Americans in New York City. Anthony joined the Eyewitness News team as a correspondent in January 2001.
In addition, his first on-screen presence was recent as viewers watched the Bronx, Baby Bombers baseball team compete in the Little League World Series and the ensuing controversy. He was also part of the Eyewitness News team of reporters and photographers on the scene on September 11th, 2001, when the horrific events at the World Trade Center occurred. During one of the most devastating days in American history, he displayed incredible poise and sensitivity to air. Anthony Johnson was on the air live just minutes after the first buildings collapsed, offering viewers a concise, first-hand look at the catastrophe and examining the impact it had on the thousands of New Yorkers whose lives had been permanently transformed.
Johnson has fought his way up the ladder to become the country’s top television market. He worked in Washington, D.C. before moving to New York. He worked for WTOP radio in Washington, D.C., which is an all-news station. Following that, Anthony Johnson became the Head of Media Relations for Atlanta, Georgia Congressman John Lewis. Johnson was in charge of the public redevelopment projects in Washington and Atlanta. In addition, he was in charge of the public relations operations in Washington and Atlanta. Organizing news events, coordinating daily press coverage, and preparing speeches and news releases were among his responsibilities.
