Brian Abel is an American reporter and anchor working for WXYZ-TV. He has been working for the station since joining in June 2017.

Abel serves as the anchor of 7 Action News at 5 on 7 and 7 Action News at 10 on TV20 Detroit Monday through Friday. He held an interview with then Vice President Mike Pence during impeachment hearings into President Trump. He also did 1-on-1 interviews with presidential candidates, including VP Nominee Kamala Harris, Former Vice President and Democrat Nominee Joe Biden, and Senator Bernie Sanders. She has also managed to enclose several stories including the death of legacy congressman John Conyers Jr. and the plot to kidnap Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
Abel has also managed to win several awards including an Emmy award in 2020 from the Michigan chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He received this award for highlighting the consequences and the prevention efforts of a drug pipeline in “Connected in Crime: Detroit to West Virginia.” He was also nominated for an Emmy in 2019 for reporting on Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin’s decision to impeach President Donald Trump.
Abel previously worked for KSHB in Kansas City where he served as a reporter. During his time, he served as the lead reporter during the station’s encasement of the 2016 election and was twice nominated for an Emmy. He also enclosed the tragic death of a young boy on the nation’s tallest waterslide, devastating tornadoes, and a triple shooting in an Olathe bar investigated as a hate crime.
Prior to joining KC, he worked for WDAY where he served as a reporter. He also spent several years working for WDAZ in Grand Forks where he served as the primary anchor. He went to Western Michigan University where he attained his degree in Journalism. Whenever he is not working, he enjoys spending his free time with his family and friends.
