Brian Parsons Biography

Brian Parsons is an American journalist currently working as the sports for WAVY-TV and FOX 43 Sportswrap. He joined the WAVY sports department in 1997 as a videographer and within a year was promoted to Sports Producer.

Brian Parsons Career

Brian thinks the biggest event he helped cover while at WAVY was Dale Earnhardt’s death at the 2001 Daytona 500. Brian graduated from Kellam High School in Virginia Beach in 1991 and attended Old Dominion University, where he majored in communications. When Brian isn’t in front of the camera, you can find him on the sidelines and courtside with a camera, filming all of Hampton Roads’ big games. Brian is a huge Redskins fan, and his favorite sports are college basketball and NASCAR.

WAVY-TV, the third-oldest television station in the Hampton Roads area, debuted on September 1, 1957. In 1959, it traded network affiliations with NBC affiliate WVEC-TV (channel 13), which it had first signed on as an ABC affiliate. It was the second station owned by what was then known as LIN Broadcasting when it launched in 1968. On March 21, 2014, Media General announced that it would purchase LIN Media for $1.6 billion in a “merger” transaction. Meredith called off the planned merger with Media General and received a $60 million termination fee that had been negotiated as part of the initial merger contract.

In exchange for granting Meredith first refusal on any broadcast or digital properties that might be disposed of, Media General inked an agreement to be bought by Nexstar. On January 11, 2017, the FCC approved the deal; on January 17, the sale was completed, and the current Nexstar stations and former Media General outlets that neither group had to sell became part of the rebranded Nexstar Media Group.
