Calvin Hughes is an American 6-time Emmy Award-winning anchor and reporter working for Local 10 News. He joined Local 10 in late 2006 from KYW-TV, the CBS station in Philadelphia.

Calvin Hughes Career

Hughes serves as the anchor of the 4, 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts at WPLG-Local 10 News. Since starting his career, he has enclosed several stories including the worst high school shooting in American history in Parkland, Florida. He also enclosed the 2021 Surfside condo collapse, the-clock coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the devastation of Hurricane Irma in 2017. He also held an exclusive interview with the First Lady of Haiti after she was shot during the assassination of her husband, President Jovenel Moise.

Hughes also spent some time in Havana, Cuba, and reported on the last two popes as well as President Obama’s historic visit. He was the first American journalist in 2015 to report live from the grounds of the new American Embassy in Havana before the official flag-raising ceremony and opening. Later that year, he reported on the death of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

Prior to joining WPLG-Local 10 News, he worked at stations in Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Dallas where he served as an anchor/reporter. He started his journalism career at the age of 19 working at a radio station prior to transitioning to TV. In addition to that, he is also active when it comes to helping out in the community and is a member of some non-profit organizations including vice-president of Angels for Humanity, the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project Mentor, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami. He is also an active member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
