Louis Aguirre Biography

Louis Aguirre is an American 6-time Emmy-Award-Winning Anchor/Reporter working for WPGL Local 10 News Miami where he serves the station as a Co-anchor for the evening news at 3:30, 4:30, and 5:30 PM News. Asides from this, he also anchors the 10 PM News for WSFL and has been working with the station since September 2017.

Aguirre attended the University of Miami and the Université de Paris at La Sorbonne after graduating from Belen Jesuit Preparatory School in 1984. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Communications and a Bachelor of Arts in French from the University of Miami.

Aguirre serves as the weekday 3:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., and 5:30 p.m. co-anchor at WPLG-Local 10. In addition to this role, he also serves as the anchor of the network’s 10 p.m. Local 10 newscasts on WSFL. He happens to be a multiple Emmy Award-winning journalist. During Earth Day in the year 2021, he became WPLG Local 10’s Environmental Advocate. He is also the face of a new station-wide campaign called Don’t Trash Out Treasure. He is a longtime and staunch defender of the planet and brings awareness of environmental issues in South Florida with the purpose of seeking solutions.

In the course of his career, he has received numerous accolades for Don’t Trash Our Treasure. Among them includes three Emmy Awards for environmental reporting, an Esserman-Knight Foundation Journalism award for the primetime series Saving Biscayne Bay and the “Good 2 Green” award from the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Asides from this, he has also been recognized with a commendation from the Miami-Dade County Board of Commissioners. He also received a commendation from the City of Miami Beach for his efforts involving International Coastal Cleanup Day. This is in addition to being inducted into the Boys and Girls Club Hall of Fame.

At the beginning of his television career at Telemundo in the year 1989 as a Spanish reporter. He eventually made the jump to Local 10 as a reporter and then weekend anchor. He also worked at Local 10 from 1989 to 1992. During this time, he also became one of the few American Journalists allowed into Cuba to cover the 30th anniversary of the Cuban missile crisis.

He states that he would later spend 14 years at WSVN in Miami before relocating to Los Angeles in the year 2014 to anchor the nationally syndicated program “The Insider.” He has also worked for “Extra” and served the team as a lead correspondent for “A Current Affair.” Asides from this, he has also worked as a co-host for “Fox and Friends.” Additionally, he has guest starred in “Sex and the City,” “Burn Notice,” “All My Children,” “Guiding Light,” and “JAG.”
