Cassie Wilson Biography

Cassie Wilson is an American Emmy Award-Winning Certified Broadcast Meteorologist, Published Scientist, and Climate Scientist working at KWCH-12 Eyewitness News. She joined the station in June 2021.

Cassie worked as a research scientist in the Nevada State Climate Office while pursuing her Ph.D. at the University of Nevada before beginning her career in broadcast meteorology. She is a proud Jayhawk who earned her B.S. from the University of Kansas. as well as an M.S.

Wilson Has a concentration in Hydrology in Atmospheric Science Cassie was the first woman to hold the post of Chief Meteorologist in northern Nevada before joining the KWCH Storm Team 12. Cassie has always had a passion for the outdoors and science. But it took six significant changes at KU for her environmental enthusiasm to find a place in the field of weather and climate. Her ultimate goal is to find ways to connect weather to the rest of the globe. Cassie is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist with the American Meteorological Society. She has presented her research at international conferences, co-authored papers in prestigious peer-reviewed journals, and is an EMMY award-winning meteorologist.

Cassie also enjoys yoga and is a certified yoga instructor. She has also served as an adviser for Delta Delta Delta and feels that a women’s group can help develop new leaders, promote scholarship, and encourage self-sacrifice via service. While forecasting tornadoes in tornado alley is exciting, Cassie believes that being a mother in the midst of a global epidemic is her greatest and most difficult adventure yet.
