Mikey Gribble is an American storm chaser who is best known for his time at KWCH 12 where he served as a weekday and weekend storm chaser. He joined the KWCH 12 weather team in 2004.
In 2001, Gribble began storm chasing during a tornado warning storm near Kingman, Kansas. Mikey realized after that first tornado chase that this was something he wanted to accomplish, and he set out to learn how to forecast and track tornadoes. Mikey began buying meteorology course books from the University of Oklahoma and learning meteorology and forecasting in his spare time after taking the only meteorology courses available at Wichita State University, where he was attending college at the time, with a focus on mesoscale meteorology and tornado forecasting. His perseverance paid off after three years of hard work learning how to forecast and nearly missed tornadoes in the field chasing.
After three years of hard work learning how to forecast and narrowly miss tornadoes while field chasing, his perseverance paid off in 2004 when he had a breakout year with 21 tornadoes. Mikey also became a storm chaser for KWCH in 2004, making his on-air debut on May 12, 2004, while covering eight tornadoes in south-central Kansas. Over the years, Mike has documented more than 160 tornadoes across nine states since joining KWCH as a storm chaser, and his storm chasing has been featured on a number of national and international media shows.
