Colin Deaver Biography

Colin Deaver is an American Anchor/Reporter working with KTSM 9 News in El Paso, Texas where he serves the station as a Sports Director since the month of April 2022. Prior to this role, he was working with the station as a Weekend Sports Anchor/Weekday Sports Reporter.

Deaver works with KTSM 9 News where he serves the station as a Sports Director. The Heisman Trophy voter has covered sports at every level from high school to the pros. He brings almost 10 years of experience in sports journalism to his new post as a Sports Director. From when he arrived in El Paso in the month of May year 2018, he has covered multiple watershed events in the Borderland.

These include the Aggies’ move to Conference USA; Ivan Melendez’s run to winning the Golden Spikes Award; the beginning of El Paso Locomotive FC; the 2019 Triple-A All-Star Game in El Paso; the NCAA Tournament; UTEP football’s first bowl appearance in seven years; a pair of New Mexico State trips to three Sun Bowls; and high school state championships.

He has broken many important stories to the Borderland in his time which include Central Michigan replacing Miami in the 2021 Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl. Asides from this, he has also shown his versatility in his coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic and the flooding that occurred in El Paso in the summer of 2021. He states that will never forget the 3rd of August 2019, the day 23 people were tragically killed in the Walmart shooting, and how the city came together to heal in that time.

The Durango, Colorado native is a proud graduate of the University of Oregon in the year 2013 which was prior to taking his first journalism job at KSWO in Lawton, Oklahoma. While in Lawton, he covered high school sports, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma, and the OKC Thunder’s run to the 2014 NBA Western Conference Finals.

Two years later, while in Lawton, he moved on to KAGS in College Station, Texas in the year 2015. Asides from this, he has also spent three years there, two of them as the Sports Director. There, he was covering Texas A&M and the SEC at large. While doing so, he was able to cover the 2017 College World Series; Super Bowl LI between the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots; multiple high school state championships; and a pair of runs to the Sweet 16 by the Texas A&M basketball team.

He states that he loves living in El Paso and the last four years have made it clear that it is home to him. Away from work, he enjoys playing pick-up basketball, hiking, watching sporting events around El Paso, and trying new restaurants around town.
