Robert Bettes Biography

Robert Bettes is an American Meteorologist/Host working with KTSM 9 News where he serves the station as a Host for Borderland’s premier lifestyle show. Asides from this, he works as a Meteorologist every weekend.

Robert Bettes Career

Bettes works with KTSM 9 News where he serves the station as a Host/Meteorologist. Previously, he served as a Chief Meteorologist for KVEO-TV in the Rio Grande Valley where he served for over a decade. Prior to this, he also worked as a Chief Meteorologist for KDBC-TV and KVIA-TV in El Paso. Asides from this, he also worked for the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi in the summer of 1994.

He headed up social weather teams for Hurricane Alex (summer of 2010) and Tropical Storm Don (summer of 2011). He has also filed live reports from the streets of New Orleans during Hurricane Isaac(summer 2012). Bettes has previously dedicated to keeping the Sun City safe in case of any significant weather threat.

Robert graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism from the prestigious Walter Cronkite School at Arizona State University. He went on to complete a second degree in Atmospheric Physics (Meteorology) from the University of Arizona. Robert is one of the few accredited meteorologists with a minor in Theater Arts. Robert has both the American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval as well as the National Weather Association Seal of Approval.

Bettes also works as a host and producer for The Open House Show, a syndicated real estate and entertainment home program that airs every Sunday morning at 8 on KTSM. He was raised in the town of Bosque Farms, New Mexico, and is a proud graduate of Del Norte High School in Albuquerque. He began his working career working as a clerk at Hastings Books and Records in Alamogordo.

Away from work, he enjoys spending time with his family. The month of December year 2019 saw him donate his kidney to his son Mason and is an advocate for being a living donor to get people o dialysis off the transplant waiting list. He also created a 57-minute documentary on everything it takes to be a living donor entitled “The Gift: Be A Living Donor.” This documentary is available to view on Google Play, Vudu, Itunes, and Amazon Prime, among other platforms.
