Connie Leonard Biography

Connie Leonard is an American 11-time Emmy Award-winning anchor and reporter working at WAVE 3 where she serves as a Troubleshooter investigator. She joined the WAVE 3 news team in June 1995, as a news and sports anchor.

Elizabethtown, Kentucky is her native home and while she grew up, she worked at her father’s grocery store. She secured her first job at the Campbellsville, Kentucky Fox affiliate, WGRB-TV as a news director and anchor. Later on, she worked in Louisville at WLKY-TV where she served as a news reporter before later joining WAVE News as a news and sports reporter. Later on, she serves as weekend anchor and co-anchored WAVE News Sunrise each weekday morning alongside Brian Shlonsky.

She attended East Hardin High School where she graduated proudly and later joined Western Kentucky University. While working at WAVE, she traveled extensively and covered the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. In addition, she provided extensive coverage of the University of Kentucky, the University of Louisville, and Indiana University for the NCAA Tournament. Leonard also traveled to Boise State with the Louisville Cardinals in the Humanitarian Bowl, visited New York with Tim Couch after he was nominated for the Heisman Trophy, and covered Kentucky’s football battle with Penn State in the Outback Bowl.

Furthermore, Connie followed the former UofL football coach John L. Smith to Pamplona, Spain for the Running of the Bulls. Over the years, she has covered many Kentucky Derbys and in 1999, she traveled to Gulf Stream Park for the Breeders’ Cup. In 1999, she brought live reports from the Belmont Stakes in Elmont, Ney York for Charismatic’s failed bid for the Triple Crown. She won two Emmy awards for sports reporting.
