Maira Ansari Biography

Maira Ansari is an American anchor and reporter working at WAVE 3 where she serves as the 3 newscast and co-anchor of the 5 pm, 5;30 pm, and 6 pm newscasts. She joined WAVE 3 in February 2007, after previously working for WCIA, the CBS affiliate in Springfield.

Maira attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois where she earned a bachelor’s degree in radio/television programming and a minor in marketing and speech communications. Later in 2002, Maira earned her master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Springfield. She previously resided in Illinois for her entire life and she was brought up in a small town in southern Illinois.

Prior to relocating to Louisville, she worked at WICD NewsChannel 15 in Champaign, Illinois where she served as the morning and midday anchor. Ansari enjoys taking part in community service activities while she spends time in east-central Illinois. In addition, she has worked with the Girl Scouts, and the American Diabetes Association and even took part in a corn-eating contest.

Maira began her television career in Springfield, Illinois where she served as the city beat reporter and before working there, she interned at WCIA, the CBS affiliate in Springfield. While Ansari was in college, she got a taste of what television journalism was all about as she worked in the college newsroom and interned in Los Angeles at the entertainment news magazine show EXTRA.

In addition, she also traveled abroad to study television in London, England. Over the years, she has traveled to over 12 countries and she can eloquently speak in a number of different languages. Whenever she finds time, she enjoys spending ample time with her family and eating at all the great restaurants Louisville has to offer.
