Darcy Thomas Biography

Darcy Thomas is an American journalist working for WHBQ FOX 13 as an anchor at 5:30 p.m. on FOX13. Since November 2017, she has worked as the station’s Director of Public Affairs. She joined the station in January 2001 as an anchor and reporter and has served the station for over 2 decades.

Thomas joined Columbia College in Chicago in 1991 after finishing her high school education. In 1994, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism. While in college, she served as a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.

She kickstarted her journalism career in 1995 at KAIT-TV8, a single-market station in Jonesboro, Arkansas. There, she wore many hats, including producer, photographer, general assignment reporter, and editor.

Thomas spent two years in Jonesboro before moving to Peoria, Illinois. In Illinois, she served WMBD as a reporter and eventually weekend anchor during her last two years there. From Illinois, Thomas relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, in 2001 to serve FOX13. She loves the joy and inspiration of this business since she never comes across stories that are exactly alike. She has won two Emmy nominations.

During her career, Thomas has witnessed the best in people, including when Mid-Southerners reached out to a woman with lupus and three children during Christmas, providing a tree, toys, clothing, and food. She has worked with multiple organizations over the years, including F-PWA (Friends of People with Aids), the National Association of Black Journalists, and the Memphis Association of Black Journalists of the Television Arts Society at Columbia College.
